CONFUSED AF。 That's exactly how I would some up this book。 I don't understand the point or goal of this book especially when the actual own protagonist says they are exactly back to when they started ON THE RUN。 I didn't feel any character growth。 I enjoyed the banter and the comical/pop culture references but that's about it。 I wish there was more of everything in this novel and sadly dissatisfied。 CONFUSED AF。 That's exactly how I would some up this book。 I don't understand the point or goal of this book especially when the actual own protagonist says they are exactly back to when they started ON THE RUN。 I didn't feel any character growth。 I enjoyed the banter and the comical/pop culture references but that's about it。 I wish there was more of everything in this novel and sadly dissatisfied。 。。。more

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review。On the run his entire life, Sydney is only half human。 His father belonged to an alien race who recruited humans to help fight their wars。 Humans have found that in space/off earth they are like superman。 His father was researching a cure for a fatal disease that any human who returned to earth contracted when he went missing。 Now Syndey's Uncle(on his father's side) has shown up with evidence that Sydney's fat Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review。On the run his entire life, Sydney is only half human。 His father belonged to an alien race who recruited humans to help fight their wars。 Humans have found that in space/off earth they are like superman。 His father was researching a cure for a fatal disease that any human who returned to earth contracted when he went missing。 Now Syndey's Uncle(on his father's side) has shown up with evidence that Sydney's father is alive。 What awaits Syndey as he looks for his father? And what could have kept him away all these years?I need a minute。。。。holy wow! This is easily a top read of the year。 I was nervous coming into this as I never got into the author's other series, but man 。。。。I'm speechless。 This story is everything。 The characters, the setting, the pacing, the reveals 。。。。it's just honestly perfection。 I wish I could meet these other alien species that are that phenomenal。 A Zombified sloth creature? Assassin(ish) werewolf creatures? Puffs of gas in armor? Sign me up, I would love to go to space even if it meant leaving earth behind forever。 The cliffhanger at the end of this is brutal as I don't know if the author plans other adventures with these characters。 In a way, I love creating my own version of what happens next, but will definitely pick up a sequel if it is written。I recommend this for all space sci-fi lovers of 12+ as this is a bit long, but there is nothing inappropriate or off-putting。 Five ecstatic stars from this flabbergasted reviewer。 Pick up a copy and be sure to let me know what you think! 。。。more

I want to thank the author/publisher for giving me an advanced reading copy of this book for this review。 Although I am very grateful for their generosity, the following review is completely my own and not influenced by either the author or the publisher。Before reading Ashfall Legacy, I had not read anything by Pittacus Lore。 I didn't even realize he was the author behind The New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four and Lorien Legacies Reborn series。 I really went into this book not realizing I want to thank the author/publisher for giving me an advanced reading copy of this book for this review。 Although I am very grateful for their generosity, the following review is completely my own and not influenced by either the author or the publisher。Before reading Ashfall Legacy, I had not read anything by Pittacus Lore。 I didn't even realize he was the author behind The New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four and Lorien Legacies Reborn series。 I really went into this book not realizing who the author was。 I only found out who Pittacus Lore was when I sat down to review the book itself。 I say this because my opinion is not clouded by being a fan of his pre-existing work。As for Ashfall Legacy, I really liked it。 I found it interesting。 It kind of reminded me of a number of major Sci-Fi hits including elements of Ender's Game with movie throwbacks like The Last Starfighter and Prometheus。 I'm not saying that the author stole from these books and movies, but I definitely see how the great works of Sci-Fi have influenced the author's own narrative。The story centers on Syd Chambers。 Syd and his mother have been running from "the man" since he was a young kid。 In this case, Syd is half-Denzan, and alien race that has a lot of fingers in earth politics, so he's running from those who want him for whatever nefarious desires they have。 As a toddler, someone tried to kidnap Syd, which is why his mother went on the run in the first。 Of course, their past catches up with them and the next thing you know Syd is on a spaceship heading to Denza to hopefully find his father。 Oh yeah, his father disappeared when he was a kid, but there's a ring that Syd is tethered to that can help them find his father。As with any good space opera, there are those who want to stop Syd from achieving his goal。 The book is filled with a lot of political intrigue。 The story deals with a number of contemporary problems from the nature of humanity, climate science, racial tensions, etc。。。 Of course, it does this using sci-fi tropes so it doesn't feel heavy-handed or like a treatise on any of these subjects。 I think this is a good book and I'm sure it's going to be a New York Times bestseller when it's released。 I think the book would be a hit with young adults even if the author didn't already have a massive, built-in following。 。。。more

The fact that this book is comparing itself to Brandon Sanderson really isn't giving me a great feeling about what its quality is gonna be。 I've read。。。 a good deal of this author's works and, well, they're fun and all but till now I haven't quite seen something that would compare to what it claims。 Seriously, being pretentious does not suit it。 Either way, I shall give it a chance because, as I just said, I've been reading a lot of this author's works, so why stop now? As a book seller I was lucky enough to get an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of the audio book, which I finished yesterday。 It was very well done。 I cannot wait for the rest of the series。 (A common theme in many of the other comment was the quality of the computer generated narrator, and how that was distracting。 I honestly did not find it that hard to follow。 Yes there were a few spots that I had to rerun in my head。 That said I listened knowing that this was not the final product, and my review As a book seller I was lucky enough to get an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of the audio book, which I finished yesterday。 It was very well done。 I cannot wait for the rest of the series。 (A common theme in many of the other comment was the quality of the computer generated narrator, and how that was distracting。 I honestly did not find it that hard to follow。 Yes there were a few spots that I had to rerun in my head。 That said I listened knowing that this was not the final product, and my review is entirely on the story, not the quality of the ARC Narration。 I strongly feel that had they read the ebook version, or had there been a human narrator their reviews would have been much better)It was fast paced, but thoroughly written。 Pittacus Lore's writing style is one that keeps you reading, and the next thing you know its 4 AM。 The visions that came to my mind of his characters were so complete - something I find not all authors remember to ensure。 The book is also a great socially conscious rendering。 From a non-binary entity using the they / them pronouns, to the hatred he had for an entire race based on a single interaction prior to being educated, that turned into a great friendship, to meeting another species which at first glance is disgusting (a mold like creature) that he also developed a great relationship with。 The relationships are so well written then they feel like part of your friend circle - or at least like one you want to join! 。。。more

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this synthetic voice audio book ARC。 I have reviewed four such ARCs and do not like the disjointed voice clip very chapter going "Harper Collins" randomly。 If it had to be somewhere it could have been the beginning of a chapter or end, not mid sentence or amid a paragraph。 It makes for disjointed reading。 I have read Pittacus Lore once before, with I Am Number Four and I haven't since because it was a disappointment after I had watched the movie。 I ha Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this synthetic voice audio book ARC。 I have reviewed four such ARCs and do not like the disjointed voice clip very chapter going "Harper Collins" randomly。 If it had to be somewhere it could have been the beginning of a chapter or end, not mid sentence or amid a paragraph。 It makes for disjointed reading。 I have read Pittacus Lore once before, with I Am Number Four and I haven't since because it was a disappointment after I had watched the movie。 I had read the summary provided by NetGalley and hadn't paid attention to the author。 Sydney (named for Sydney, Australia) has been on the run from someone with his human mother since his alien father disappeared。 Going from place to place has made making friends all but impossible。 When one day that someone catches up to them, he finds himself face to face with his uncle, who wants Syd to use his Denza abilities to look into tech that will show a nap of space and find his father at the end of a tether。 Syd's mother confesses that her father, Syd's grandfather was recruited by the Denza among 12 humans to fight a mysterious planet renewing energy being that looks like a dragon and creeps through universes and dimensions。 They were successful but can never go home because of a sickness that kills returning humans who had once they left Earth being superpowered。 Syd's father was on the hunt for a lost people who'd visited multiple worlds without any sideffects。 Syd agrees to go with his uncle。 His mother shares with him a secret plan to cure what kills superpowered humans and have them come back to Earth to force people to shape up with Denza tech to back then up。 So confusingly without any talk of it Syd is apparently enrolled in a Denza school as a cadet in the meantime? But he does try one time while one the ship to find his father and one of those dangerous energy dragons decides to have achat, calling him "world killer" and showing him a glimpse of the future。 Then it's off to and where Syd takes a few classes and encounters the two sides of Denza, those who regard humans in heroic awe and those who would like them to go back to Earth until humans prove they're no longer primitive in the way they treat Earth, each other, and have the technology to join the seven space worthy races。 Things escalate to a near kidnapping and a unexpected rescue。 Denza is left behind again as Syd and his friends, and uncle, race to get to Syd's father's location first。 There they find heartbreaking and mind-bending truths of the origin story that they must try to set free upon worlds。 Or else see history repeat。 。。。more

I just want it known that I couldn't thoroughly enjoy the audiobook due to the robotic narrator that took away from the character who is supposed to be telling the story。 It's an artificial voice reading the story。 I've listened to a few audiobooks with robotic voice, but this one was just bad。 I found myself getting lost and not following along because the voice wasn't genuine enoughAside from the robotic narrator, the plot was pretty interesting of 'Ashfall Legacy'。 The plot follows a male cha I just want it known that I couldn't thoroughly enjoy the audiobook due to the robotic narrator that took away from the character who is supposed to be telling the story。 It's an artificial voice reading the story。 I've listened to a few audiobooks with robotic voice, but this one was just bad。 I found myself getting lost and not following along because the voice wasn't genuine enoughAside from the robotic narrator, the plot was pretty interesting of 'Ashfall Legacy'。 The plot follows a male character named Sydney。 Sydney is actually a half-human, half-alien hybrid on the run with his mother。 After ten years of staying one step ahead of their pursuers, Sydney is found by his alien uncle。 He then journeys into space to attend an academy and search for his missing father。 That was the gist of the story that I followed along。 There were a lot of different species of aliens that I couldn't keep straight and hope that in the book there may be a glossary - because that would be really helpful to follow along。 One thing that was weird to me was what the point of the school was the Sydney's Uncle sent him to。 I didn't really get what the school was doing for Syd。 I think that when the robotic narrator is replaced with a human narrator it would help me like this better and I will definitely be looking for that in the future。 One other thing that I wanted to note was that it seemed like the events in this plot were a bit confusing and some things were just thrown in that didn't have any footing within the overall plot。 I am a HUGE fan of the 'I Am Number Four' series, so that was the big reason I wanted to give this book a shot。 I will definitely be coming back to this when the book releases to get more into the headspace of the physical book and adjust my review as needed。 Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins for this ARC! 。。。more

I like the premise of this novel; however, I wasn't impressed with the language。 I like to listen to audiobooks while I cook dinners and I was listening to this one and didn't realize just how many curse words it contained until my son quoted back a line。 By no means do I mind curse words here and there in a novel; however, this one had too many for my tastes and my mom life。 I did like the space odyssey that unfolded in this novel。 Syd is on the run when his uncle finds him and reveals the past I like the premise of this novel; however, I wasn't impressed with the language。 I like to listen to audiobooks while I cook dinners and I was listening to this one and didn't realize just how many curse words it contained until my son quoted back a line。 By no means do I mind curse words here and there in a novel; however, this one had too many for my tastes and my mom life。 I did like the space odyssey that unfolded in this novel。 Syd is on the run when his uncle finds him and reveals the past that his mother has spent his entire life hiding from him。 The universe unfolds before him and the ring left by his father lights his path。 Half earthling, half Denza (an alien race), Syd embarks with a diverse crew to try to save humanity。 What I liked: the different alien races were pretty cool。 I liked the descriptions and imagination that went into creating the worlds, the aliens and the conflict。 What I didn't like: the explicit language, the dialogue。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this novel! It explained things very well, and let me build a good picture in my head of the characters and the different settings around the universes。 I'm looking forward to the others in the series when they come out! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC。 I really enjoyed this novel! I received the Audio Galley of Ashfall Legacy from NetGalley free of charge。 It was my choice to read and review。This is the first book I've read by Pittacus Lore。 This was really bad。 The synopsis says it "will enthrall fans of Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman, and Brandon Sanderson。" TOTALLY disagree。 It felt more middle grade than a young adult book to be honest。 I was impressed with the plot progression because when I started listening I had predictions about where the story would go and it went f I received the Audio Galley of Ashfall Legacy from NetGalley free of charge。 It was my choice to read and review。This is the first book I've read by Pittacus Lore。 This was really bad。 The synopsis says it "will enthrall fans of Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman, and Brandon Sanderson。" TOTALLY disagree。 It felt more middle grade than a young adult book to be honest。 I was impressed with the plot progression because when I started listening I had predictions about where the story would go and it went further than I thought。 That's about the only good thing I can think of about this book。 The characters and world-building were underdeveloped and because the scope was so big, there should have been fewer characters so the reader could feel more connected to the characters。 Also, the reason I read sci-fi is to read about creative alien races and far-off places。 I don't read sci-fi to be reminded "humans are dangerous" etc or really ANYTHING about humans (if I wanted to be reminded of that I would turn on the news or read more literary fiction) so this made the conclusion of the plot super disappointing。 。。。more
